Big Day of Giving: A Legacy of Generosity and a Call to Action for CASH

Each spring, our region comes together in a powerful act of generosity known as the Big Day of Giving—affectionately called Big DOG. Since its inception in 2013, Big DOG has united nonprofits and neighbors in the Sacramento region to raise critical funds and awareness. What started as a local initiative by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation has become a cornerstone of philanthropy in Northern California, raising tens of millions of dollars to fuel the missions of hundreds of nonprofit organizations.

This annual event is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together to support the causes that matter most. In just 24 hours, donors uplift the work of local nonprofits, spark change, and help sustain programs that transform lives. At its core, Big DOG is about connection—connecting people to purpose, generosity to impact, and problems to meaningful solutions.

For us at Community Against Sexual Harm (CASH), Big Day of Giving is one of the most special moments in our calendar. It’s a time when we reach out to our community not just for financial support, but for solidarity. CASH exists to assist commercially sexually exploited women through survivor-led peer support, harm reduction, and health services, while educating the broader public about the harm inflicted on women and our community. We are proud to be a safe space and a source of hope, but the reality is: our work is only possible because of donors like you.

The needs we meet are urgent and often invisible—housing insecurity, trauma recovery, job training, and HIV prevention are just a few. The women we serve deserve care that is trauma-informed, culturally competent, and rooted in lived experience. Big Day of Giving enables us to keep these services going and to expand them as the need grows. Each dollar raised during this campaign goes directly into supporting these critical programs.

And here’s the good news: early giving is open now! That means you don’t have to wait until May 1st to make an impact. You can visit our GivingEdge profile today to make your contribution and help us build momentum toward our goal. Every early gift helps increase our visibility, attract matching funds, and inspire others to give.

Big DOG is more than a day on the calendar—it’s a lifeline. We’re asking our supporters, our partners, and our community to stand with us. Let’s show the women we serve that Sacramento believes in their healing, their resilience, and their right to a future free from exploitation.
